The way we were/ personal stories from long-time residents of Neustadt

Material type: TextTextPublication details: Neustadt, ON 2013Description: 34pSubject(s): Summary: It was a simpler time. A time when the meal served at noon was "dinner" and the meal served in the evening was" supper". When your friends were "across the field" and not across the city or in another province. When the doctor made house calls and you don't have to wait a couple of weeks to get an appointment. It was a time when Sunday wasn't just another shopping day but after church you visited friends and relatives or you received them in your home. Did you have to phone them first? No, you just dripped in on them and were invariably invited to join them at the supper table. We in the Neustadt Writers' Workshop wanted to try and capture that bygone time. The following pages are only a small sampling of the collective memories of some of Neustadt's long-time residents. If you don't recognize the storytellers, you will surely remember the places and events they reference. This is a work in progress. If you have a story to add to our collection, please contact Carol Dyck at Village Creations, or the Writers' Workshop through the library. These stories were collected by the Neustadt Writer's Workshop through interviews with the participating contributors, with the exception of the story by Ruth Fidler, who wrote her own story. We area so grateful for the help of Lynda Scully in pursuing information for this collection.
