Summary: James Herbert Cranston, LL.D., who died in 1952 , was one of Canada's better known authors and editors. He was for more than two decades editor of the Toronto Star Weekly and, in his latter years, publisher of the weekly newspaper serving the Midland-Penetanguishene district of Huronia. One of the initiators of the Huronia Movement and a pioneer of the Huronia Association, he contributed many articles to the national and local press on the history of this part of Ontario. In addition he was the first president of the Huronia Museum and the author of three books-a volume on the history of Canada for young readers; "Immortal Scoundrel", the story of Ontario's first white resident, Etienne Brule; and his own autobiography, "Ink On My Fingers". Dr. Cranston's original text has been altered in this sixth edition of his Huronia History only to take account of developments in historical research which have occurred since his death. - From the book.
